WATER ACTIVITIES
Cruises
Experience the Mexican Riviera and enjoy a fantastic vacation with plenty of fun in the sun! Cabo San Lucas is a playground for water enthusiasts, dining, nightlife, shopping and active pursuits.
Whale Watching in Los Cabos
Each winter the California Grey Whales make the 8,000 mile trek from the Bearing Sea in Alaska to the warm lagoons of southern Baja California. From late January through March these gentle giants occupy the coves and inlets of Baja. Many of them can be found about 400 miles northwest of Cabo, however many will continue their journey south to the cape where they will birth their calves and feast on the abundant plankton of the nutrient-rich Sea of Cortez.
To best observe these beautiful marine mammals we suggest a whale watching tour, which departs daily from the harbor.
Glass Bottom Boats
Discover the unusual rock formations, tropical fish, and sea lion colony as you sail around the Arch to Lovers Beach. Tickets are available at your front desk or at the Main dock at the Marina.
Swimming & Beaches
Los Cabos has miles of Mexico's most spectacular beaches. Some are still unnamed. Their unspoiled beauty is breathtaking. The "Corridor" is a photographer's vision. Craggy rock formations where the desert meets the sea make the coastline particularly photogenic. You can enjoy beaches on foot, horseback along the bluffs or from the window of your car. The beaches of Los Cabos are yours to enjoy, to explore and remember forever.
Sport Fishing
Los Cabos is a fishing haven known as the Marlin Capital of the World. There are more striped marlin caught within 20 miles of Cabo San Lucas year round than any place in the world. Catches over 1,000 pounds are not uncommon.
But marlin is not the only fish you can catch - dorado (mahi-mahi), yellowfin tuna and even wahoo, to name a few. The deep-water canyons at the mouth of Cabo San Lucas harbor and the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez waters create favorable fishing conditions most of the year. Generally, the peak season for marlin is mid-October through December, but after January varying species run well each month.
Catch and release is the name of the game with the marlin and other trophy fish, but dorado and tuna are yours to keep. There are 500 fishing boats based in Los Cabos, from the moderately priced 20 to 24 foot pangas to custom-fitted pangas to custom-fitted state of the art luxury fishing yachts for hire. Half day, full-day or multi-day fishing excursions are easily booked, as are upscale trips offering live-aboard luxury accommodations and gourmet meals. The Esperanza concierge can arrange for group excursions and private charters.
Surfing & Windsurfing
Costa Azul offers the best waves for surfers especially during the months between June and October. The most ideal place for Windsurfing is 45 miles north of Los Cabos airport at Los Barriles. For those who want to stay local, the main beach area in Cabo San Lucas offers body surfing waves and afternoon winds.

DINING
& NIGHT LIFE
Local Dining & Night Life
There are dozens of fine restaurants in Los Cabos, covering a range of cuisines, styles and milieus. There are elegant white-tablecloth restaurants, as well as street side bistros; "hacienda restaurants" with dancing and live local music; casual beachside eateries and funky little snack shacks.
The flavors of Italy, France and the Americas are well represented, and several popular spots feature the regional Mexican cuisine that is a "must-taste" for any visitor. Local seafood is highly-regarded, and appears on menus from restaurants of every description.
Dining is one of the most delicious treats of any Mexico visit. Mexican cuisine is delightfully diverse, strongly regional and almost always bold (although not necessarily hot) in flavor. Since Mexico spans several climatic zones, the types of food available vary greatly from region to region. Mexico's jumbled topography has limited the "homogenization" of dishes in terms of their ingredients and preparation.
What's a favorite on the coast may be unavailable further inland. Herein lies the allure of dining in Mexico. Remember, Mexican cuisine (much like its history) has been strongly influenced by foreign countries. Spanish, French, and North American practices intermingled with the nation's century-old Pre-Columbian culinary heritage, producing a rich blend of dishes that are copied and envied around the world.
As to ingredients, the world can thank Mexico and Central America for beans, corn, squash, tomatoes, jicama, chocolate, avocado, papaya, guava, vanilla, dozens of spices, and of course, chile peppers.
After dinner, Cabo comes alive at exciting nightclubs like Cabo Wabo (which regularly features big-name music acts), The Giggling Marlin, No Where Bar and El Squid Roe. For those in search of a little US-style glamour, there's Hard Rock Cafe. Many Los Cabos hotels, too, have clubs and bars that attract visitors and locals from all over the area.

The Corridor
Stretching along 18 miles (29 km) of sea coast that link the towns of San Jose and Cabos San Lucas, the Corridor is a scenic succession of pristine beaches, sheltered coves, and promontories. Several sprawling resorts have sprouted along the coast, along side Mexico's finest collection of golf courses and a spiffy collection of new health spas for golf widows.
Depending on your viewpoint, the Corridor can be seen as either a secluded paradise thankfully short on commercialism and clamor of Cabo San Lucas, or like being marooned in the middle of nowhere. There's plenty of open space, but no settlements other than the upscale resort enclaves that dot the coast. Highway One cruises through the area, with numerous dirt road turnoffs that head to nearby beaches (look for blue and white signs). The area's beaches are spectacular and almost always deserted. This is prime surfing and beach-combing territory; however, not all beaches are suitable for swimming due to strong undertow.
Cabo San Lucas
Cabo San Lucas is considered by many visitors to be the epicenter of the Los Cabos resort scene. While San Jose earns high marks for its friendly, historic charm, Cabo San Lucas has sprung to life only in the last 10 years. To some the city is a curious and somewhat frenzied mix of loud bars, hip nightclubs, chain restaurants, designer boutiques, and timeshare sales booths. Others rave about the city's diverse gourmet dining, abundant shopping, and familiar American-style vacation diversions.
Undoubtedly there's more to do in "San Lucas" (as locals call the city) and lots more people out and about than in its quieter sister city of San Jose. Its busy marina draws visitors for boat excursions and to the sport fishing dock to see the day's catch. There are also considerably more dining, shopping and nightlife options. As for scenery, Cabo's setting is more dramatic: This is the true end of the Baja Peninsula and the point where the Pacific and Sea of Cortes come together.
What you won't find here are any historic buildings, since Cabo only began to develop as a city in the 1970's. Most attractions are within four or five blocks of the marina. Several new shopping malls anchor the marina's east side, while the sprawling Costa Real dominates the rest of the town's waterfront. Across from the marina, facing a string of deluxe beachfront resorts, is beautiful Medano Beach, Cabo San Lucas' swimming beach and a haven for all sorts of water sports.
El Arco
The boat ride to El Arco should not be missed. This naturally-hewn rock This naturally-hewn rock formation at land's end was carved by centuries of pounding waves and wind. You can either rent your own skiff in the marina or at Medano Beach, or head out on an escorted glass-bottom boat.
Lover's Beach
The excursion to Lover's Beach (Playa del Amor) is fun. This remote, although increasingly crowded cove, offers an ideal picnic spot with its calm waters, excellent snorkeling and towering stone cliffs.
Fabrica de Vidrio
See artisans at work at the small glass factory that produces beautiful hand-blown items.
Fishing Fleet Docks
Wander to the marina in the afternoon to see the fishing boats return. There's also a sprawling open-air market selling handicrafts and clothing.
